Member Memories: Portland Marathon

Twenty-two club members served as lead cyclists for 9,000+ runners for this year’s Portland Marathon on Sunday, October 6. This was the fourth year that race organizers have invited PBC to provide lead cyclists since the Covid hiatus. It was a beautiful morning, and all our riders enjoyed the experience. Riders were assigned to lead the top men and women runners for three races running simultaneously: 10K, full marathon and half-marathon. The course began at Naito and Salmon and went through downtown, the northwest neighborhood, around Moda Center and the Broadway Bridge, down Naito and Macadam, across the Sellwood Bridge through Sellwood and Eastmoreland, and back to the start on the east side of the Willamette.

Thanks to the following riders who got out of bed well before dawn and joined me to be ready to go for the 7:00 AM start:  Kim Allen, David Anchel, Dave Brauer-Rieke, Melissa Carroll, Bob Cook, Kendall Cyr, Allen Duarte, Nina Faddoul, Monica Hadley, Albyn Jones, Sharon Knachel, Gary Lippert, Ronda McKenzie, Martha Muñoz, Alison Nelson, Jason Olney, Keith Peters, Chris Smart, Kirk Theisen, Hannah Theisen, Khaliyah Williams-Rodriguez.
